Abstract

major public health concern, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, where long-term treatment needs, stigma, comorbidities, and psychosocial challenges continue to affect people with HIV (PwHIV). Globally, an estimated 40.8 million people were living with HIV in 2024, while 31.6 million were receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART), demonstrating substantial progress in treatment access but also highlighting the continued need for comprehensive, person-centred care beyond viral suppression (UNAIDS, 2025). In Nigeria, HIV remains a significant public health issue, with approximately two million people estimated to be living with HIV (NACA, 2019; Onovo et al., 2023). Recent Nigerian evidence also shows that ART adherence, comorbidities, age, marital status, stigma, and socioeconomic conditions continue to influence health-related quality of life (QoL) among PwHIV receiving ART (Abba et al., 2026; Ali et al., 2026; Oladejo et al., 2024).
