Abstract

The increasing adoption of electric vehicles has created a growing demand for efficient and sustainable charging infrastructure. This research investigates the design and performance of a solar-powered electric vehicle charging system that integrates photovoltaic energy generation with battery-based energy storage. The proposed system is designed to utilize solar energy during periods of high solar availability while maintaining charging continuity through an energy-storage component. Key parameters including photovoltaic output, battery state of charge, charging efficiency, energy conversion and environmental conditions are considered in the performance assessment. The study evaluates the potential benefits of integrating renewable energy into electric vehicle charging infrastructure and examines challenges associated with intermittent solar generation. Results from the proposed framework indicate that solar-assisted charging can reduce dependence on conventional grid electricity and contribute to lower operational emissions. The system provides a potential solution for developing sustainable and decentralized electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
